Hi, Hello, Aloha…!

I’m Mark, and it’s a pleasure to meet you. Officially bi-coastal, I call both SF & NYC home, which means I’m perpetually over or under-dressed for the weather... I’m on the road for assignments more often than not and am happy to head anywhere in the world for a project.

Prior to establishing my photography practice, I spent a good chunk of my life working as an architect in New York City and San Francisco. I eventually realized I’m much happier photographing a project than trying to get one permitted. IYKYK…

If you have a creative vision to chat about, or you just want to debate which coast has the best pizza (it’s a closer race than you might think…), please reach out. I’d love to connect!

  • Easy! A vintage Hasselblad medium-format film camera. These iconic cameras were hand-crafted in Sweden and built like absolute tanks. What really sets them apart though, is the sound of the shutter firing… KaChuck! It’s reminiscent of the sound of distant cannon fire on a foggy Swedish morning…

  • For the past two decades, I’ve lived in either San Francisco or New York City. My time in each city tends to fluctuate seasonally, but I have a home base in each (a little cottage in Marin County, and a little apartment in Park Slope, Brooklyn, to be precise.) I work as a local on both coasts, and if I’m not currently in the city where you’d like to shoot, my bags are always packed, and I’ll happily be there bright and early tomorrow morning.

  • Every project is unique, with requirements that vary based on scope, location, usage etc. Please reach out with a few details about your project, and I’d love to schedule a brief call to discuss working together. This really helps me provide an accurate quote as opposed to a guesstimate. I completely understand that pricing is often the first question on a client’s mind, and my goal with this initial conversation is to build the foundations of a relationship based on trust and understanding. This is always a pressure-free conversation. Regardless of the outcome, I value taking the time to listen and learn, and I love connecting with new people.

  • Yes! For smaller projects, I can film, produce and edit video content. For larger productions, I typically put on my director’s hat, and work with a regular team of cinematographers and lighting-technicians to produce content. I’m also a licensed Part 107 drone pilot if require any aerial photography.

  • When I’m not shooting, editing or talking to my accountant (freelance life is never-ending…), I like to decompress by hiking through the California redwoods, cycling around Brooklyn with friends, or bopping off for a weekend to explore Mexico (a recent obsession of mine…). I live with my wonderful partner, as well as our senior dog (14 years old), and our senior cat (21 years old!), who I love to snug with.

  • Great question! I love working with kind, creative people, and building strong, lasting working relationships. From feedback I’ve received from projects over the years, I’d say that clients appreciate my warm, easy-going nature, professionalism and attention to detail. I love being involved in all facets of creative project development, and am adept at both leading the creative vision, as well as contributing as part of a larger team. No ego, just a desire to make the best work possible for my clients while managing any stress or friction with grace and empathy.
